Of Buffalo Grove
Joseph Glenn Anderson was born on March 27, 1956 in Elgin, Illinois to William and Elizabeth (nee Grauser) Anderson. He died Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
As a child, Joe would take apart clocks to better understand how they worked. This curiosity and proclivity for mechanics then transferred to bicycles and automobiles. Joe was a true gearhead. He loved working on cars, driving cars, talking about cars, looking at cars, going to car shows near and far, visiting Volo Auto Museum and reminiscing about cars of his past, especially his GTOs. Joe was an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certified Technician for over three decades eventually transitioning from a career as a mechanic to a Parts & Service Director for Ford and/or Lincoln-Mercury dealerships within the Chicagoland area, most notably, Golf Mill Ford, Libertyville Lincoln Mercury and Sessler Ford. Despite his professional transition of job duties, Joe still loved “wrenching” on cars, diagnosing difficult issues, and sharing his knowledge with other car enthusiasts. Joe especially took great pride in sharing his knowledge and working on cars with his daughters.
Joe was also a great lover of music. In his early teens, Joe and some friends created his first band, “Aabel,” for which Joe played bass. Joe also played guitar and tinkered with playing piano and drums. Like his love of cars, Joe’s love of music was multi-faceted. He enjoyed playing music, writing music, listening to music (often at excessive volume levels) and attending live shows. One of his most memorable concert experiences was seeing Led Zeppelin. Joe shared his love of music with his daughters before they were born, singing and playing guitar for them while they were still in the womb and continuing to do so well into their adulthood. Joe also loved camping, working on projects around the house, sunrise cruises, taking pictures, reminiscing and laughing with friends and family and most importantly, spending time with his “three girls.” Joe always saw the positive in every situation. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. Joe was bigger than life and lived it to the fullest.
Joe is survived by his best friend of 48 years and wife of 44 years, Lina Anderson (nee De Amicis); his daughters Laura Anderson and Cristina Anderson, and her partner Matt Kahn; his sister Margaret Anderson; he is also survived by his nieces and nephews Christopher Urbanz, Timothy (Nipa) Urbanz, Jennifer (Clay) Perkins, Vania Annesley, Tonia (Lonny) Klaff, and Marino Parissi.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Elizabeth (David) Neff.
