Mary Kathleen Sanaghan Doheny was abruptly called home to God’s Heavenly Kingdom on September 29. She was born in Chicago November 7, 1939 to Elsie and Edward Sanaghan. As a child, she enjoyed summers in Lake Delevan with her extended family, aunts, uncles and many cousins. She attended high school at St Patrick’s Academy and went on to experience a brief vocational calling with the Sisters of Mercy Order which later would often spark a smile for her four children. Soon after she left the convent she was introduced to her beloved husband Tom in 1958. They were married in 1961 and lived in the Milwaukee area before eventually settling in Elk Grove Village, IL. Kathy and her family spent nearly 50 years in Elk Grove. Kathy was passionate about creating a beautiful & warm home, her attention to detail unmatched. And delighted in sharing it with her dear family, relatives and countless friends. Whether the gathering of loved ones was around the hearth or poolside, it was always hard to leave the warm ambience, spirited conversation, and good wine found where Kathy was concerned. Kathy brought this same energy to her recently purchased home in Lake Forest, IL where she had planned to have more time to spend with her children and grandchildren in the area. Kathy was also known as ‘Emma’ to many. It was an affectionate nickname given to her by her first grandson Doyle and it suited her. Emma was a great story teller and loved sharing family history with her children and grandchildren. She had a bountiful love of life and every gathering was made better by her presence. Kathy and her late husband Tom started the family business in their garage in Elk Grove Village in 1967. She and Tom were married for 37 years before he died in 1998. Their marriage was a true love affair. Kathy’s powerful faith has guided her as she waited so many years to again be reunited with him – in the Heavenly Kingdom. Kathleen is survived by her children Coleen (Sven) Bley, Katie (fiancé Mike Mangan) Doheny, John (Bridgette) Doheny and Maureen (Pete Jansons) Doheny; cherished grandmother of Doyle, Quinton, Julia and Tessa Bley, Thomas, Mary, Margaret and Jack Doheny and Maxwell Jansons and dear sister of Kenneth (Mary) Sanaghan, Michael (Janice) Sanaghan and Edward (Nancy) Sanaghan Jr. Wise, kind and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews; a loving and unwavering friend to many. Visitation will be Friday, October 4, 2019 from 3-8 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, October 5 at 11:15 AM at Queen of the Rosary Church, 750 W. Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove Village for a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
