Mary C. McCarthy of Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 at the age of 97. Mary was born on December 29, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the cherished daughter of Robert and Catherine Walsh (nee Fitzpatrick) and sister of the late Evelyn Frye.
Mary was the loving wife of John D. McCarthy for 51 years until his death in 1999. She had five children, two of whom, Mary Tierney and John McCarthy, predeceased her. She is survived by Nancy (the late Patrick) Gibbons, Robert (Debra) McCarthy and Kathleen McCarthy. She was the proud grandmother of Robert, Daniel and PJ Tierney, Laura Cypress, Julia McCarthy, Elizabeth Schommer, Denise McCarthy, Lauren Leisen, Robert McCarthy Jr., Patrick Gibbons, Kerry Cellini and the late Colleen Tierney. She is the dear great-grandmother to 17.
Mary faced adversity in her life with strength and humor. She was a good friend to many. Mary served on the board of the Arlington Heights Senior Center for 15 years. She also volunteered at Northwest Community Hospital. She loved to travel.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 434 W Park St, Arlington Heights, IL 60005. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums, 1400 S Wolf Rd, Hillside, IL 60162.
