Nancy McMillan Ahrens

Of Arlington Heights

Nancy M. Ahrens was born on October 5, 1937, in Chickasha, OK to Dr. James and Clarice (nee Hadsell) McMillan. She died Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Arlington Heights.

Nancy graduated from the Uinversity of Oklahoma in 1959 with a teaching degree. She was always proud that her brother and sister, parents, four grandparents, her brother-in-law, and two nieces all graduated from OU. She was a big Sooners sports fan!

Nancy worked as an Elementary Teacher for Arlington Heights School District #25 for about six years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights. She was a long-time member of the PEO Sisterhood, currently Chapter IX. As her children grew older, she first got into retail sales at Mark Shale at the Woodfield Mall. She also loved antique jewelry and worked at and briefly owned the Eloise Toland Jewelry Store in Long Grove, IL. Nancy loved summer vacations especially water cruises. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and was loved by all.

Nancy is survived by her spouse of 60 years, Robert; son, Benjamin (Kimberly) Ahrens; grandchildren, Eliza Ahrens, Grace Ahrens, and Claire Ahrens; sister, Carole (the late Don) Duffield; nieces, Ann (Bruce) Sutherland and Donna (Brent) McGee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Philip Ahrens; brother, Lt. James McMillan (Viet Nam).

There will be a Memorial Service at 11AM on Monday, December 27 at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, 302 North Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment is private. Prior to the Service there will be a Visitation Period from 9 to 11 AM. Masks are required.
