Norbert, Daleiden 79, passed away on Feb. 25, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer. His family was by his side, holding his hand, loving him, and praying for his peace. Norb was born in Chicago to Norbert J. Daleiden and Hilda (Daubenfeld) Daleiden. He married the love of his life, Bonnie (Youngren) Daleiden, on August 26, 1967, and settled in Arlington Heights. Together they raised their three children, Bud, Jonna and Tim, to whom he was an engaged and devoted father.
Norb grew up in Park Ridge and attended Notre Dame High School. His keen intelligence was noted early, and he was asked to join the Sputnik scholars program. When not studying, Norb worked in his family’s religious goods store in Chicago.
He attended Northwestern University, where he earned Bachelors, MBA, and JD degrees. He began his career at McDermott Will & Emery and went on to form the law firm of Daleiden & Tremaine, Ltd., where he practiced law until his passing. He had an extraordinary ability to recall minutiae from decades past as if it were common knowledge. He loved reading, devouring massive treatises of history and parsing them into teachable moments for his family.
What mattered most to Norb was spending time with Bonnie, his best friend and wife of more than 50 years, and the family. He especially enjoyed summers in Hayward, WI where the family has owned a home since the 1950s. On a perfect summer day, Norb could be found captaining his boat Felicity on Lac Courte Oreilles, family aboard or in tow on skis, making big circles around the lake. He and his lifelong friends were a fixture at all the local spots in Hayward, particularly Angler’s Haven on the lake. Bonnie was his trusted co-pilot and was always there joining him for long boat rides, scenic walks, watching movies, and going out to dinner. Norb had a wry sense of humor, and she was his best audience and biggest fan.
Norb was charitable with his time and energy assisting anyone who needed his help. He was incredibly loyal forging friendships of over 70 years with Art Tremaine, Jerry Fairclough, and Marshall Seese. He had a booming laugh and filled every room with his colorful stories, big heart and zest for life. He loved his kids, his grandkids, his dogs, Chris-Craft boats, beautiful lakes and his Bonnie Jo, fighting courageously to stay with her until the end.
He leaves six grandchildren with fun-loving memories of their grandfather: Max, Anna, Casey, Ellie, Bennett, and Chloe. Also left with decades of fond memories are wife, Bonnie; children, Bud (Becky) Daleiden, Jonna (Micah) Eimer, and Tim Daleiden.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights at 10:30 am with visitation from 10 am until the time of Mass.
Donations in Norb’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Solanus School, 13885 W. Mission Rd., Stone Lake, WI 54876, Attn: Sister Felissa. Funeral Information and condolences can be given at www.GlueckertFuneralHome.com or (847) 253-0168.
