Pat LaPointe was born July 27, 1949 in to Nick and Jeanette (nee Arquilla) Romito. She passed away on May 3, 2024 at her home in Prospect Heights.
Pat was born and raised in Chicago. After having four daughters, Pat went back to college to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She had an insatiable desire to read, always surrounded by books. It was at Wright State where she met and became close friends with Marty, and eventually they married and started their loving and life-long journey together.
Pat went on to graduate school, attending doctoral programs in Psychology in Chicago. After several years in the psychology field, Pat shifted her focus to pursue her real passion in life, writing short stories centered around her life and self-empowerment, and providing opportunities for other women to share their voice. She published, “The Woman I’ve Become,” a collection of short stories including her own, and had countless stories and articles published online. She regularly hosted writers’ retreats and participated in writers’ groups, including Story Circle Network in Austin, Texas, attending their International Women Conferences. She eventually became President of Story Circle, serving a two-year term, and developing a close network of women writers with whom she remained close for the rest of her years.
Pat and Marty enjoyed traveling both in the U.S. and abroad, including taking numerous cruises. Pat was blessed to have nine grandkids and loved hosting them, especially for holidays and pool parties. During the last 10 years of her life, Pat had her loving and loyal Yorkie, Ziggy, right by her side. The two were inseparable.
Pat had an incredible sense of humor and an eagerness for life. She had boundless energy and a relentless thirst for knowledge. With ease, she could strike up a conversation with any stranger. She seemed to embody the words of Frank Sinatra in his famous song, “My Way." She will be deeply missed and loved always.
Pat is survived by her husband Martin LaPointe; her daughters Susan (Kirk Kline) Troester, Carrie (Eric) Bryn and JoAnna (Stuart) Miller; her grandchildren Graham, Olivia, Max, Henry, Louie, Eddie, Charlie, Harrison and Sammi; her siblings Mike (Jan) Romito and JoAnn (Tom) McCormack; her cousin Grace (Dan) Burdelik; and by many nieces and nephews.
