Raimund Lapsys

Raimund “Raimundas” Lapsys, of Wheeling, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 82. Ray was born June 6, 1943 in Kukai, Lithuania to Ignas and Genovaite Lapsys (nee Cepsys).

Ray was the loving husband of 52 years to Raminta Lapsys (nee Baukys). Cherished father of Laura Lapsys, Kovas (Erika) Lapsys and Andreja (Nick Poll) Lapsys. Proud grandfather of Vitalija Lapsys and Vakaris Lapsys. Fond brother of the late Kestutis Lapsys.

Ray had a deep and abiding love for nature, especially the majestic mountains of Austria and The Rockies. He shared his spirit of adventure and reverence for the outdoors through countless family camping trips, creating lasting memories under open skies. He was a master of hyalography, one of the few glass engravers in the country to perfect this rare and intricate art form. A man of many talents, Ray found joy in baking bread, crafting his own cheese recipes, and tending to his gardens—nurturing vegetables and flowers with care, even into his final days. A thoughtful and devout Catholic, Ray engaged deeply in conversations about faith with family, friends, clergy and fellow members of his Saint James Men’s Group.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. The funeral Mass will start at 10:30 AM.
