I was sorry to hear the news and express my condolences to the family. I worked on a number of shoots with Ricardo over the years. Rick was a good-natured, wise and intelligent gentleman in every sense of the word. A good man. He honored his extra work commitments, even during the worst days of the polar vortex. Bumped into him one time at a church when he was supporting the radio play directing efforts of a fellow super from Lyric Opera. My sister was in the cast. Last spent time with Rick at a shoot at White Sox U.S. Cellular Field for “Michelle Darnell,” renamed “The Boss.” Literally enjoyed a day in the sun with him at the ballpark last year. During downtime, if I remember correctly, I think he said he hadn’t traveled back to Cuba, but he did make it back in a virtual visit using Google Maps. On his cell, he proudly showed me the street and building from his early years in the homeland.

Rick and I were supers in my first opera as a super -- Xerxes, in 1995. He was very kind to me as I was learning the ropes, and I will always remember and appreciate his kindness. We were in several operas together in the following years, and also did some lightwalking together on occasion. He will be very much missed, and I can't imagine attending a dress rehearsal without seeing him in the dress circle with many friends around him. It is hard to believe that he is gone so soon.

I am so very sorry for your loss -I had the pleasure of working with Rick several times and truly enjoyed his company Rick was not only very kind -he was extremely interesting to talk to-I love opera but Rick was an expert! Miriam: I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. i know that there is nothing that can be said to lessen his loss, but I wanted you to know you have my heartfelt sympathy. You probably forgot who I am but we were supers together at the lyric in "Boris" and your husband made those color prints of the ad and you sent me one.

Thank you, Rick, for the gift of your friendship. You are one of the world's truly gentle souls, and a most excellent bicycling partner. We can always say that we should have spent more time together, but no regrets.

Sad at Rick's unexpected curtain. Celebrate his life well lived. We shared Civic Opera House stage as Lyric opera & American Ballet Theatre supers, and many Film/TV sets as background extras.

Fly high Rick. Your family and friends will speak your name with fond memories, with love, and with anecdotes telling of your spirit and soul and that will create a new physical presence for you in the world. You entered stage left quietly with a cry and now exit stage right with operatic music and grandeur. Fly high, fly high.
