Robert (Bob) Harold Morton, age 68, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away on January 1, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1955, in Zion, Illinois, to Deanne (nee Ekstrom) and Joseph Morton. Bob grew up in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Arlington Heights, where his family moved when he was twelve. As a child, he spent many summers at Plum Point on Chesapeake Bay, where his paternal grandparents owned a cottage. Some of his earliest memories were of his grandfather’s sailboat. Bob developed a passion for boating which lasted throughout his life and earned him the affectionate nickname “Captain Bob”. He loved nothing more than taking family and friends out for a cruise on the lake. Bob also enjoyed playing baseball when he was young, and always relished watching sports, especially basketball and baseball. Family was a focal point of Bob’s life. He was devoted to his niece and nephews, and wholeheartedly supported and encouraged them throughout their lives. Whether he was attending one of their sporting events or concerts, he was always one of their biggest fans. Bob was a 1973 graduate of Arlington High School. He attended Western Illinois University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He later earned his MSW from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Bob worked for many years as a licensed clinical social worker, primarily helping troubled adolescents. In recent years, he has been highly regarded for his work at United Health Care. Bob had a genuine caring nature and would not hesitate to help anyone who needed him. His sudden departure from this world leaves a gaping hole in the lives of his loved ones. His family is particularly grateful for the excellent care he received from the ER and ICU medical teams at Endeavor Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Bob is survived by his mother, Deanne, brothers Rich (Janine) and Joe (Kathy), sister Jackie (Michael), niece Sabra, nephews Drew, Daniel, and Noah, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph. A Visitation is planned for Sunday, January 14, at 1 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM, at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 916 E.
