Robert W. Van Kleunen

Robert (Bob) W. Van Kleunen passed away peacefully at his home in Inverness, IL surrounded by his family on July 16, 2024. Bob was born on July 28, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey to Anton and Jenny Van Kleunen.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Van Kleunen (née Hein); his son, Ross and daughter-in-law, Rochelle; his daughter, Kendall and son-in-law, Greg Guth, as well as his beloved grand dogs Norman, Brody and Oliver; his sister, Sandra Sepe (née Van Kleunen) along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Jenny; his brother-in-law, Donald Sepe; his nephew, David Sepe; and numerous relatives and friends with whom he is now reunited.

Born and raised in the suburbs of New York City, Bob was a true East Coaster. New York City was one of his favorite spots to visit and spend time. He also loved spending time at the beach and the restaurants on Hilton Head Island, SC and on the Jersey Shore.

After graduating from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, he had a long career with Kemper Insurance. Bob advanced his way through the company becoming a Division Vice President at the Long Grove, IL office. His frequent travels for work allowed him to visit amazing places around the world and he loved sharing those trips and experiences with his beloved wife, Barbara, who was the center of his world from the day they met.

Bob was passionate about sports. He enjoyed playing golf, he dabbled in sports broadcasting in his 20’s and 30’s, and he was always checking out the tv schedules to make sure he didn’t miss any of the games of “his teams”. March Madness was a personal holiday for Bob, and every year he patiently awaited the arrival of the opening day of Major League Baseball.

In addition to his love for Barbara, his children, sports and the beach, Bob always enjoyed a night out at one of his favorite restaurants. He was always the life of the party, made friends everywhere he went and his light in this world will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate Bob’s life on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church located at 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.

Visitation is at the church from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

A Celebration of Life Service is planned for 11:00 a.m.
