Samson (Sam) V. Garcia was born on November 18, 1950 in the Philippines to Isaias C. “Sonny” and Benjamina (nee Villanueva) Garcia. He died on April 19, 2022 at Northwestern Memorial Lake Forest Hospital.
Sam received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of the Philippines (UP) and a Masters Degree in Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Fraternity at UP. His fraternity brothers were an integral part of his college days. Before immigrating to the US in 1975, Sam was an Economist for The Philippine Department of Labor.
Sam became a US citizen in 1981. He was a General Manager at American Hotel Register Company. He started his own business at Strathmore, Vellum, and Gainsborough (SVG) Inc, a commercial printing company specializing in the restaurant industry. Sam retired as a Systems Analyst at Aon Hewitt.
Sam loved coaching his four kids in soccer throughout their youth. He eventually continued his coaching career as the Head Men's Coach at Harper Jr College in Palatine, where he also established the first Women's Soccer Program.
Sam cherished the lifelong memories created on family road trips across the US and international adventures through Europe with his wife and children. He also loved western movies, bike riding, tennis, swimming, and basketball. His greatest enjoyment is spending time with Austin and Grayson (his grandsons). They played with Legos and the elaborate model train set that Sam proudly built.
Sam is survived by his wife Mabel (nee Macalindong) Garcia; his children Sheila (Scott) Wheaton, Steph (Bryan) Ryter, Stein (April) Garcia, and Sam Vincent (Rosemarie) Garcia; his grandchildren Austin and Grayson; his siblings Imelda (late Rolando Villabroza, Nelson (Susan) Garcia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilson Garcia and Johnson Garcia.
As a symbol of celebrating Sam’s life, the family requests everyone to wear something white.
Visitation Thursday April 28, 2022 from 3 until 8 PM (7 PM Prayer and Eulogy) at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Funeral Mass 10:00 AM, Friday April 29, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Road. Interment Memory Gardens.
