Sarah C. Schnell, a first-generation Irish American and native Chicagoan, Sarah lived life to the fullest and devoted herself to the people she loved. Her greatest joy was capturing the heart of her husband, Bob, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2023. Together they raised five children: Peg (Rick) Curry, Nancy, Julie (Pat) Mulchrone, Susie, and Matt (Judy).
Sarah was the proud grandmother of 11 and three great-grandchildren, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a fourth. She was the sister of Kathleen (Joseph) McDermott, the aunt of 3, and great-aunt of 3. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and May, along with her brother, Peter J., her sister, Peg, her grandson, Zachary and great-granddaughter, Ruby Mae.
Family was the center of Sarah’s life. Her grace, love, and compassion guided every decision, and she delighted in bringing people together. She was the consummate hostess, ensuring every holiday and celebration was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. A gifted cook, she could prepare an outstanding meal with ease—yet she also relished simple pleasures, including a hot dog with extra onions.
Beyond her devotion to family, Sarah was grounded in her Catholic faith and found comfort in the Word of God. She was an active member of her parish and drew strength from her church community.
Sarah passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. May the road rise up to meet her, and may God hold her in the palm of his hand.
