Sonja Elisabeth Ring

Of Arlington Heights

Sonja Elisabeth Ring was born 6/7/37 at Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago IL. to Sivert and Margot (nee Vierli) Ranheim.

She died 10/7/20 at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL.

As a loving wife, mother and grandmother Sonja exhibited strong traits of friendship and hospitality. She was a loyal member of Community Bible Study (CBS) and the Orchard Evangelical Free Church Choir in Arlington Heights, where she was also a leader of the children's choir. She loved her many friends at the Orchard over many years, drawing strength from friendship while worshiping her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was highly skillful at sewing and knitting and she greatly enjoyed making sweaters, socks and afghans for family and friends alike. Sonja greatly enjoyed snow skiing most of her life which she continued with into her mid-60s. She also enjoyed traveling, which she did extensively. Her favorite destination was to her beloved Norway, the country of her parents’ birth, where she loved visiting her many relatives and friends. Beginning in the early 1980's when her son's began college, she started working for Door Systems Inc. in Itasca, IL, as an office manager and purchasing agent. She retired from Door Systems in the mid 90's.

Sonja loved spending Summers in Bethany Beach, Sawyer MI at the family’s summer cottage where she enjoyed managing the household there. She cherished the wonderful times spent with her husband Don and many close friends within the Bethany Beach community.

Sonja is survived by her adoring husband Donald of 62 years, sons Todd (Ginny) Ring and Tim Ring, Grandchildren Robert Dohm, Bridget Dohm, Mackenzie Ring, and Mitchell Ring. She was preceded in death by her daughter in law Margaret Eileen Ring.

Sonja was a tremendously loving, caring, and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who we will sorely miss and mourn, but always will be thankful to the Lord for blessing us with the time we had with her. We will definitely miss your Christmas cookies this year Mom!

Memorial service 10:30 am, Monday, June 7, 2021, at The Orchard Evangelical Free Church, 1330 N. Douglas, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Her family will receive guests from 10:00 am until the time of the Memorial.
