Thomas William Vail, Sr.

He was born on February 25, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to William and Lorraine (nee Young) Vail. He died Wednesday, February 14, 2018 in Park Ridge, Illinois surrounded by his loving family.

Tom grew up with his family in Des Plaines, Illinois and attended Notre Dame High School in Niles. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Warwick Electronics in Niles and was a small business owner. Tom most recently worked at Old Orchard Country Club where he spent more than 20 years with his golf family. He was an avid golfer and a Chicago Sports Fan. “Big T” loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was loved by all.

Thomas is survived by his spouse of 52 years, Carolyn (nee Rubino); children, Thomas W Vail, Jr., Lisa (John) Fischer, Amy (Jerry) Smith, Brian Vail and Crystal Abbate; grandchildren, Evan Fischer, Mia Smith and Ty Smith; siblings, Barry (Jackie) Vail, Kathy (Phil) Ciaccio, Willie Vail, Mary Pat Vail and Larry (Rhonda) Vail; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial visitation Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Memorial visitation Saturday February 24, 2018 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment is private.
