William A. (Bill) Denten 101 of Arlington Heights, Illinois died peacefully at home. May 17, 2026. Born on September 24,1924, in Chicago, he was the son of Frank and Margaret Denten. He attended Loyola Academy High School graduating in 1943. After High School, he bravely and heroically served as a Second Lieutenant and bombardier in the Army Air Corps, 448th Bomb Group, Squadron 714 in World War II, stationed in Seething, England. He was proud of his service but didn’t like to talk about it. He always said that his older brother Art was the hero of the family. Art served as a medic in the Army infantry in Europe. After the war, Bill attended and graduated from Loyola University. On
June 24,1950, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth M. (Alice) Reimen. They shared a loving marriage for almost 75 years.
Bill spent most of his career in the insurance industry working for the Insurance Company of North America. Retiring for the first time in 1979, he then worked for several years with his brother Ed at the Mercantile Exchange.
After retiring from the Mercantile Exchange, Alice and Bill spent much time traveling the country in their RV and visited almost every state in the USA.
Alice and Bill remained actively involved in their children’s and grandchildren’s lives and were always supportive role models, mentors and leaders of the family.
When his kids were growing up, Bill often served as the scorekeeper for his son’s little league baseball teams. Not because he wanted to, but because no one else wanted the job. That was him, hardworking, humble, and dependable. If there was a job that needed to be done, he was always there. Bill has now turned in his last score sheet, and it shows that he, and everyone who knew him, won. A life well lived.
Bill will be forever remembered as a truly remarkable and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Bill is survived by his daughters Maureen (Frank) Postal, and Cathleen (Bill) Botheroyd, sons William R. (Debbie) Denten, John (Jane) Denten, James Denten, Patrick (Julie) Denten and Terry (Kathy) Denten as well as 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth M. Denten and children Darlene McCook and Daniel Denten.
