I just discovered this obituary, so I'm not sure anyone will see this , I met Bill in Chicago when we both worked together at The Evanston Children's Center, after I left EvanstonBill and I started dating, we had to date long distance because I subsequently moved to St.Louis, there were multiple flights back and forth and many long distance phone calls,  I have so many precious memories of Bill, it would be difficult to pick just one, I am so glad he got married and had a family!!

As I prepare to put my thoughts to words, one line by John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles come to mind…  “Love is not a big enough word for how I feel.”
Growing up in a large Catholic family, we were the middle three, Tommy, Billy & Eddy.  Less than two years separated Tommy & Billy and less than two years separated Billy & myself.  I remember taking swimming lessons at Maine West, ice skating at Lake Opeka, and baseball or softball in changing venues, to accommodate our growth.  We sat in the back of the family station wagon traveling to visit our Dad’s relatives on the farm in Bonfield, and on vacations to the Rocky Mountains, Black Hills of South Dakota and the Smokey Mountains.  In junior high we sang in the annual school Christmas shows, which was well documented with the go to picture of the three of us standing by the front door.  I served my 1st and last mass as an alter boy with Billy.  Every year we would watch the 4th of July fireworks from our back yard and light contraband fireworks outside of our parent’s view.  The highlight of many summers was our annual trip to Adventureland!  I don’t simply remember all these things, I’ve grown cherish them.
I was always proud to be Billy’s brother.  One moment stands out as when I think I first realized that.  In 8th grade Billy was cast in the lead role in Cheaper by the Dozen.  Believe me Clifton Webb had nothing on my brother!  Not long after that, Billy left for high school at St. Augustine’s in Michigan.  At the time, I probably would not admit that I missed him, but I did.  In the summers though, he continued to have a positive impact on me. He was the first to tell me about the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, recommended reading Of Mice and Men and turned me onto Cat Stevens, who I had never listened to before. 
He went on to Villa Nova and the Seminary, before leaving to live and work in Chicago, where he worked evenings at a facility for troubled youths.  He went back to school to study nursing, where he met and fell in love with Jeanette.  As most of you know, they got married and raised two amazing kids, Joey and Laurie.  He spent almost three decades working in the emergency room at the VA.  He literally comforted and cared for thousands of people, many at the most difficult moments of their life, and he was good at it.  I know by way that he and Jeanette cared for our parents in the last years of their lives, a debt I can never repay.  
Even during his illness, I he seemed to comfort us more than we could him.  His deep faith sustained him and inspire me today.  To borrow from Harry Bailey’s toast at the end of It’s a Wonderful Life…  A toast to my big brother Bill.  The richest man in town!  Listen closely for the sound of bells in the coming days, for an angel is sure to get his wings!

I am so sorry for your families  loss.  I met Bill at St Augustine’s in Michigan and shared many Highschool and College Memories.  He carried a scar on his wrist due to my poor first aid skills at St Augustine’s.  He had a great sense of humor and a warm heart.  I wish I would have stayed in touch during the last 30 yrs.
