Barbara M. Reed was a caring and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and beloved friend. She passed away on August 22, 2024 at the Texas Masonic Retirement Community where she resided for the last four years. She was 92 years old.
Barbara was born on May 25, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska to Orville and Sarah McCaslin. She grew up in the Omaha Benson neighborhood and attended Benson High School. It was here that she met her future husband, William Griffith Reed. They married in 1951 and raised two sons, William Steven Reed and Wesley Sherman Reed. Barbara stayed at home to raise and care for her family. During this time she often volunteered at her sons’ schools and was active in the PTO. She developed many friendships in the Omaha/Benson community that would last throughout her lifetime.
In 1978, Barbara and Bill relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. In typical fashion, Barbara fostered many new friendships during her new life in Texas. Barbara and her husband owned and operated a local Kwik-Kopy Printing Company for 13 years. After retiring, she began working seasonally at the Fort Worth Stock Show in the ticket office. She also worked tirelessly for Tarrant County Elections as a poll worker during early voting sessions. In addition to her part-time jobs, Barbara always found time to give back to her community as a volunteer. She was a 70-year member of the Chi Omega Sorority and actively participated in their many charity events. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and volunteered in the Prayer Room each week. Barbara’s real passion was volunteering as an usher at the Bass Performance Hall where she fell in love with the cultural events and especially the Children’s Education Program. She gave more than 20 years of service to the Bass Hall and was extremely proud to earn her volunteer “Angel Wings”. Barbara loved to play golf and was an avid Texas Rangers Baseball fan, diligently following her team with pride and enthusiasm.
Family was an essential part of Barbara’s life. She loved planning and cooking holiday meals, spending time with her grandchildren and making special memories with them, remembering every birthday or anniversary, and documenting family vacations to Colorado with memory books. She was Mom, Barb, Grandma, Baboo and Sweet Aunt Barb to all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Sarah McCaslin; her brothers, Robert, Richard and Charles; her sister, Virginia; and her husband, William G. Reed. She is survived by sons William (Jill) Reed and Wesley (Katrin Bishop) Reed; her grandchildren Tyler (Josephine) Reed, Seth (Kristen LaFond) Reed, Hannah Reed and Lydia Reed; and great-grandchild, Heidi Reed. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Krecia (Dave) Brendan, Kyle (Mary) Thompson, and Keri Thompson.
A special thanks to the staff, nurses and aides at the Texas Masonic Retirement Community for their constant and compassionate care.
