She was born on July 28th, 1930, in Wylie, TX. Later, her family moved to Lubbock, TX where she graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947. After graduation, Bettye worked as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell in Lubbock, Texas. She loved to talk about her years working as an operator.
On December 8th, 1962, she married her loving husband, Ed Hannabas of Wilson, TX. They moved to Arlington, TX where they raised their two children, Eddie and Susan. They were active members of First Baptist Church until Ed became too ill to attend. She was Ed’s caregiver until his death on September 9th, 2009.
She was a homemaker and mother to Eddie Hannabas and Susan Hannabas Falconer. After her time as a stay-at-home mom, she worked as a pharmacy assistant at Randoll Mill Pharmacy. After retirement, she volunteered faithfully at Mission Arlington for many years. She was honored to serve alongside Mission Arlington founder, Tillie Burgin, and was privileged to host a Bible study in her home and led by Tillie for many years.
In 2017, Bettye’s health began to decline so she and her family decided it was best for her to move to Briarview Senior Living in Carrollton, TX. She was reluctant to leave her home of 55 years, but after a short time at Briarview, her health improved, and she enjoyed socializing with the staff of Briarview and friends and family who came to visit. She had a huge impact on everyone she met there.
Bettye is preceded in death by her husband Ed Hannabas; her parents, Lloyd and Ruby Turner; brothers Lee and Wendell Turner and sister Francis Pharr.
Bettye, also known as “Grannye,” was loved by her family. She had two children: Ed Hannabas of Arlington, TX and Susan Hannabas Falconer of Carrollton, TX. She had a son-in-law that she adored as her own son, Kevin Falconer of Carrollton, TX. She had four beautiful granddaughters: Michelle Falconer Bebout; Melinda Falconer Holmes; Megan Falconer Harvey and Sophie Hannabas. She also had three grandsons-in-law that she adored: Shane Bebout; Tate Harvey and Delvin Holmes. She was overjoyed by her four great-grandchildren: Stoyan Bebout; Andi Bebout; Ayden Bebout and Matthias Bebout. She was looking forward to meeting her fifth great-grandson due in March: Baby Boy Holmes.
The family would like to express our thanks to the staff of Briarview for their compassionate and loving care of Bettye for the past five years and to the staff of Accord Hospice for the wonderful and loving care she received at the end of her life.
