Booker T. Harris was born on February 11, 1937, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to the late Theressa and E.J. Harris. He received his education in the Hot Springs public school system and later moved to Little Rock, Arkansas.
At the age of 17, Booker enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years on active duty and an additional four years in the reserves.
After returning to Hot Springs, Booker worked at National Rejectors before continuing his education at the Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center, where he earned a trade certification in small engine repair. He later began a long and dedicated career with Weyerhaeuser in Mount Pine, Arkansas, where he eventually retired.
On July 31, 1973, Booker married the love of his life, Martha, beginning a union that lasted for 52 years.
Booker and his family were faithful and active members of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church in Hot Springs for many years. In September 2008, they relocated to Arlington, Texas, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
Known for his vibrant personality, Booker was truly full of life and never met a stranger. He loved to talk, laugh, and connect with everyone he encountered. His warm spirit, kind heart, and willingness to support his family, friends, and community left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Booker leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Martha Harris; his daughters, Natasha Harris of Mansfield, Texas, and Tiffany Harris of Arlington, Texas; and his bonus daughter, Marilyn (Frank) McMurrian of Lathrop, California. He is also survived by five grandchildren: KeiAndre Reed, A’Breia Baker, A’Raeyona Baker, Desarae Standoak, and Antonio Smith; one great-granddaughter, Rylie Reed; his uncle, Peter (Survenria) Counts; sister-in-law, Shirley Counts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
The family extends special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the Dallas VA Medical Clinical Team, the VA Home Health Team, Mansfield Methodist physicians, nurses and support staff, and the Valor Hospice Team for their compassionate care and support.
