Don also had tours with the Marine Security Detachments assigned to the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway, and London, England. At age 12, he acted and sang in the touring company of the Broadway musical "Tom Sawyer." He always loved nature, music and dancing, and was especially known for his gregarious personality and candid sense of humor. After retiring from military service, he worked as a salesman for American Homes, and was district manager for Encyclopedia Britannica. He was also director of facilities at Fielder Road Baptist Church. Don married his wife Virginia in Texarkana in 1973 before moving to the D/FW area in 1975. They enjoyed spending time on the lake or just watching birds and squirrels in the yard.
