

She was born in 1924 in Fannin County, Texas to Luther and Clarice Patterson. In 1941 she met and married a handsome young soldier named William Thomas Layton. Throughout her life, Frances was able to travel extensively and their family also grew with one child born in Tyler, Texas, another born in Biloxi, Mississippi, 2 born in Aurora, Colorado, and their 5th child born in Japan.
Mrs. Layton dabbled in many hobbies during her life and loved working and playing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She knitted, sewed, quilted, painted, volunteered as both Camp Fire and Cub Scout leader, fished, slotting, traveling, gardening and finally her crossword puzzles.
She is survived by Marguerite and Greg Chapman of Morrilton, Arkansas, James Howard of Cedar Hill, Rebel and Tim Long of San Angelo, Texas, William and Sue Layton of Arlington and Steven and Janet Layton of Kilgore, Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, 8 siblings, her husband, William Thomas Layton, Sr and 1 daughter, Susan Marie Howard.
The Captain’s Lady has gone home.
