Lynn grew up in the Henderson area. He lost his father at a young age and began working to help support his family as he finished high school. He, then, received a full baseball scholarship at Kilgore Junior College and later attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his undergraduate and Master's degree in Law. While working on his undergraduate degree, he met the love of his life, Judy Lamphere Smith. Lynn and Judy then moved to Dallas where he built a successful law practice.
Lynn enjoyed many hobbies during his life. He had the patience and pleasure of coaching his daughters in various sports for many years. He played tennis for several years then moved onto golf. Everyone acquainted with him knew that if the sun was out, he could likely be found on the golf course of Bent Tree Country Club. He was a long time member and was honored to serve as a past president. He was an incredible father, avid reader and probably watched thousands of hours of sports!
A man of many memorable traits, his two strongest were his desire to help anyone that he met in any way he could and his amazing, quick wit. You could always count on Lynn for a laugh. He has left his family and friends with MANY, MANY great memories.
Lynn also was a big animal lover. The Smith family was known by all for having more pets at any given time than any one household should have. The memories of the annual trips to the discount shot clinics will forever be one that brings laughter!
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Gay and Irene Smith; and his son, Todd Alan Smith. He is survived by his wife, Judy Smith; children Jennifer Smith Workman and husband Tim, Wendy McAleer, and "sort of" son, Devon Bass and wife Nicole; grandchildren Conor McAleer, Keegan McAleer, Austin Bass and Casey Bass.
