Gary William Roberson passed away on August 4, 2020 in Arlington, Texas. Gary was preceded in death by his father, William M. Roberson, in 1983 and his mother, Mary Irene Roberson, in 2016. Gary is survived by an aunt, Juanita Saunders, and two cousins, Ron and Brent Saunders, all residing in Gallipolis, Ohio and a special friend, Lucy Lumbreras.
Gary was born in Huntington, West Virginia on November 22, 1940 and grew up in Marion, Ohio. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1958 and attended Ohio State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration. Gary joined the Ohio Air National Guard and was selected to attend the Department of Defense Multi-Branch Military Air Intelligence Training Program and served six years as an Air Intelligence Specialist for the 179th Tactical Fighter Group and the 164th Tactical Fighter Squadron based in Mansfield, Ohio.
Gary’s professional career began in 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio with the CPA firm of Arthur Young & Company. In 1967 he joined Ametek, Inc., a diversified manufacturing company headquartered in New York City. Gary spent the next 12 years with Ametek in financial and management roles at their operations’ headquarters near Philadelphia and several plant sites in Ohio and Texas. In 1982 Gary joined LTV Energy Products Company located in Dallas, Texas. In 1984 he transferred to Oil States Industries in Arlington, Texas where he spent the last 23 years of his career as a financial executive and was involved with several foreign and domestic acquisitions.
Gary retired from Oil States Industries in 2007 and was able to enjoy his favorite activities: golfing, movies, reading and dining with friends. Gary always felt he was very fortunate to have had such a good life, and left this brief message:
“Those who may grieve.
I beg you not.
Life led me down a path of charm.
Unlike many who know only toil.”
