Just now saw this.  Guy was a classmate at AOCS Pensacola Class 24-84.  I remember him as a solid guy with a quick wit, able to see the humor in many situations.   I know he will be missed by all.  It was an honor to commission and serve in our great Navy with him.

I first met Guy in the navy when I was a brand new student A-6 pilot up in Washington. For the first few flights, an instructor pilot rode in the right seat of the A-6 when us new guys figured out how to fly the beast. No controls in the right seat (the B/N's cockpit position) so it took nerves of steel to sit there and coach us newbies, with no means of intervening from the right side to take over if things went south. He was energetic and passionate back then, and a damn good IP.

Years later, I'm walking through American Airlines ops room in ORD, having just completed training in DFW and completely lost - again - and who do I happen upon but Guy Gribble, a newly minted Captain on the MD80. To my surprise (but after getting to know him again, really no surprise at all) he remembered me from our days in the Intruder, and (also no surprise) helped me get my bearings there in ORD. We swapped a few stories and stayed in touch. 9/11 happened shortly thereafter. I returned to the navy, and Guy pressed on with AA.

Fast forward a few more years and I'm at NBAA IOC, and who should I happen upon but Guy Gribble! Again we caught up, but as usual with Guy the years of little to no contact melted away and we got on as if we'd just had beers the day prior. I convinced my boss to use Guy's training service (an easy sell), International Flight Resources, for our department so for the last few years have had regular contact with Guy. He was always "The Shell Answer Man" when it came to international ops, and just a damn fine individual. At IOC we usually made it a point to have dinner together. We solved a lot of the world's problems during those meals.

I hope I have 1/10th the bravery, grace and positivity Guy displayed through his battle with cancer when my day comes.

Guy's joy was contagious and it seemed he always had a smile on his face. I was a fellow Eagle pilot in VA-115 and had just recently reconnected with him. We had plans to get together on one of my regular trips to Dallas and I am saddened to know that I missed the chance to catch up. Thanks so much for the pictures. They warmed my heart.

I flew with Guy many times in Japan while we were with VA-115 Eagles. "Gunny Gus" was a great American and always a fun person to be around, both on the ship and on liberty "missions." After the Eagles, we went our separate ways only to be reunited on a American Airlines flight from Honolulu where I was lucky enough to be upgraded to 1st Class and Guy walked out of the cockpit for a break and we saw each other. We caught up and carried on like we had never been apart, and he had some great stories to tell, that's just the kind of person he was. I was very sorry to hear about his illness and passing, he will truly be missed. My condolences to Denise and the entire Gribble clan. I looked through my photos and came up with the below picture of Guy and Paul Fujimura getting ready for a flight off of USS MIDWAY in 1988 or 89.

Guy 'Gunny' came to the Eagles of VA-115 aboard the USS Midway as a new-bi Intruder pilot about the time I was a slightly salty Bombardier Navigator (BN). Gunny wasn't considered a new-bi for long because he flew the Intruder like he'd been doing it for a long time. His ease and comfort in the aircraft made him a joy to fly with. He always had something funny to say to lift your spirits. I feel privileged to have known him back in the good old days. However, in reading the comments from others, Guy apparently just got better and better with time. My condolences to Denise and the Gribble family.  Blessings, Marble

Had the pleasure of working with Guy when he was doing pilot interviews. Also flew with him a few times out of Dfw. He was a gifted storyteller and a good stick.
He will be missed. 

To all the Gribble family--

We are indeed saddened to hear of the passing of Guy.  He was so full of life--so full of the simple joy of living, really--that I think we just knew he would beat this thing and outlive us all.   I don't remember any time, when I passed him in the hallway at church, that I didn't see a grin on his face or hear a quick joke or pun that would send me laughing or groaning!  I'm sure there were hard times, but he never showed that on the outside.  What we saw were smiles, optimism, and a determination to live every moment to its depth.  He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

My condolences to Denise and the rest of the Gribble family. Guy was all about family and he loved telling me about everyones latest exploits. He was a PROUD husband, father and grandfather. Guy was a family man through and through. I worked as a volunteer under Guy at the pilots union at American Airlines. Guy helped save many pilots lives and careers, and many would never know his roll as he humbly worked behind the scenes. He would tell me to "just do whatever it takes, and I will figure out how to pay for it". What a man! I am glad we spoke the Friday before his passing. We lost a special man. Love you Guy! Peace is upon you, your work is done.

It is with heavy hearts today that we reach out to Guys immediate family to express our condolences. My oldest memories of cousin Guy where when we made the long drive to visit family in Bakersfield and our mom would remind us that Guy and Gloria would be there as well that trip. I thank God for prompting us to visit with Guy in 2019. Love ya, cousin Craig 

Gloria and I are so saddened to hear that Guy has passed. He was a good man, so friendly all of the time. I used to see him in the gym  and we would talk a little in passing.  Through the years Gloria and I  would pass by your house (we live just down the street) and see Guy and honk and wave. It seems like I just saw him in the driveway a couple of weeks ago. I thought maybe he had beat it and my neighbor Paul and I almost stopped as we drove by. We were elated that  he appeared to be better. We wish we had stopped and chatted just a little, but we thought there would be another time.
