only son of Robert Schartz and Sherry Barnes. Even as a child he was an avid sports fan with a
tremendous amount of natural athletic ability, excelling in basketball, baseball, and football. He
loved video games and was passionate about music, with a particular love for rap and hip hop
culture as a child. As he grew up he developed an interest in and affinity for various forms of
artistic expression that included drawing, writing poetry, and eventually playing guitar and
songwriting, all of which he excelled at. Over the course of his life his taste in music evolved
and expanded to include all sorts of rock, jazz, fusion, old country (never new), and avant garde
genres. He remained a lover of video games, and a loyal supporter of his hometown sports
teams, namely the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, and TCU Horned Frogs.
In 2010, he married the love of his life, Sarah House Schartz, and they made their home and life
together in Arlington, TX. Together, they enjoyed spending time on the lake, riding motorcycles,
acquiring tattoos, traveling extensively (especially to Colorado), attending live sporting events,
and spending time with his younger sisters, Taylor Schartz and Brenna Boatwright, each of
whom with which he shared a unique and cherished relationship. He was an unapologetically
devoted and proud mama’s boy, sharing a rich, loving relationship with his mother; a
relationship he prized and tended above almost all others.
He spent the last 17 years of his life in the employ of Dealer’s Electrical Supply, beginning his
career as a driver at their Grand Prairie office, and finishing as the branch manager of their
Irving location. He loved and was highly successful at his job, held his co-workers in the
highest esteem, and garnered their tremendous respect and admiration in return.
On February 9th, 2020, at the age of 40, Nathan died tragically and unexpectedly at Arlington
Medical City Hospital, just days after doctors discovered an inoperable brain tumor. He was
surrounded by dozens of friends and family, receiving a Walk of Honor as he was led to an
operating room where he was able to donate his organs, saving the lives of multiple others in
need around the country.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah House Schartz, his mother Sherry Barnes and
husband Bob, his sisters Taylor Schartz and Brenna Boatwright, his father, Robert Schartz and
wife Teresa, his grandparents, Sue Taylor and Allen Boatwright, and a large extended family of
loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Nathan had a magnetic charisma, an incredible sense of humor, a brilliant mind, and a deep
love for and loyalty to his family and friends. He will be missed terribly and remembered fondly
by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service and party celebrating his life will take place on February 22nd, 2020, at
4:00pm at J. Gilligan’s Bar & Restaurant at 400 E. Abram, Arlington, TX 76010. All ages are
welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nathan’s memory to
LifeGift at https://www.lifegift.org/make-contribution or 1000 12th Ave., Fort Worth, Texas
76104.
