Sid was born August 14, 1930 in Fairview, Ohio. He moved with his parents and two brothers to Fort Worth in 1941. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth and later received his Bachelor of Science degree. Sid met the love of his life Sue several years later on a blind date. They were married six months later.
Sid served his country on active duty during the Soviet buildup in Europe (Berlin Crisis) during the Fall of 1961. He received his Army Aviation Wings from Fort Rucker, Alabama in March 1966, as a Chief Warrant Officer. He continued his flying career with the Army National Guard and became a full time Civil Service Flight Instructor in 1971. He served in that capacity until his retirement in September 1990. After retirement, he spent several years as a Real Estate Broker for Coldwell Banker in Arlington.
Sid was an avid reader, collector and researcher of family genealogy. His granddaughter often remarked how many books he had on his office shelves. He had a passion for historical subjects attending TCJC Senior program every chance he could, studying American History.
Sid and Sue enjoyed traveling. They spent many days on the road in their RV and especially enjoyed their cruise around the Hawaiian Islands and 10 days touring Europe.
After maintaining a home on the East Side of Fort Worth, they moved to Arlington in 1995. Sid was a member of the Meadowbrook United Methodist Church before moving to Arlington where he became a member of St. Barnabas United Methodist Church.
Sid was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Sue Sears Eckstein; parents Sidney Eckstein and Florence Amanda Wilmott; brothers, Harold Eckstein and Captain Melvin Eckstein USAF; and sisters Marjory LaLonde and Dorthy Rhoades.
Survivors: Daughter Karen Ann and son-in-law Larry Murphy; daughter Kellie Lynn and son-in-law Steve Camber, and son Kerry Wayne Eckstein and wife Robin; five grandchildren, Josh and Taylor Eckstein, Eddie Alexander, Alyson and Natalie Camber; five great-grandchildren, Edgar, Reagan, and Jackson Alexander, and Toby and Ansel Eckstein.
