Teena M. Daus, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and teacher, passed away on February 1, 2024 at the age of 90. She was married for 67 years to Capt. Rudolph H. Daus, who preceded her in death.
Teena cherished time spent with family. She is survived by her three devoted sons, William & wife Valerie, John & wife Andrea & Daniel; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was extremely proud of her family and leaves behind beautiful memories of love and laughter.
Teena was born on August 7, 1933 in New York City. She embraced her catholic faith and was affectionately known as Teena. She received her teaching credentials from College of Notre Dame and went on to have a rewarding career as an elementary school art teacher for a number of years in the Fairfax County school system. Her dedication to her students was evident in the way she nurtured their growth and encouraged their curiosity. Many past pupils credit Mrs. Daus for instilling in them a lifelong love of learning.
In addition to her passion for teaching, Teena was actively involved in charitable organizations in her community. She was a longtime volunteer with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, selflessly giving her time to help provide food, shelter, and other services to those in need. She was also an active member of Capital Speakers, sharpening her public speaking skills which she would then use to advocate for issues important to her.
Teena was a longtime member of the Washington-Tokyo Women's Club where she enjoyed learning about other cultures and making lasting friendships. She Teena also volunteered with Good Shepherd Housing, helping provide affordable housing solutions to the area's vulnerable populations.
Teena lived life to the fullest with her infectious smile, sharp wit, and warm heart. She made the world a little brighter and touched countless lives. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held next year at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interned with her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Teena's memory to the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Washington, D.C.
