Anne Maynes is survived by her husband, Robert W. Maynes; children, Jennifer L. Lilliendahl, wife of Jonathan, Pottstown, PA, and Catherine Fischer, wife of Kenneth, Fairport, NY; twin brother John Woodcock, husband of Patsy, Black Mountain, NC; her grandchildren, Rebekah Lilliendahl, Anna Lilliendahl, Brandon Fischer, Rachel Lilliendahl, and Tyler Fischer.
Anne was born on September 17, 1941 in Winston-Salem, NC to Max and Mary Woodcock and was raised in Black Mountain, NC. She married Robert in 1968 in Huntsville, AL. She graduated from Emory University in 1963 with a degree in education. She later earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Maryland in 1971. After moving to Arlington, VA, Anne began working for Spring Hill Elementary School as a librarian in 1971. She worked as a librarian for 30 years, most of which was at Spring Hill. She was so beloved that Spring Hill created a garden with a statue of two children reading in her honor. Anne passed her love of reading on to her daughters and grandchildren. Her visits always included a trip to the bookstore to buy books for everyone, and she could never say no to a book her grandchildren wanted!
Anne believed in giving back to the community and began volunteering in the local McLean Youth Soccer Club in 1984 after her daughters became active in the sport. She continued to volunteer in soccer long after her daughters graduated and left the area, first serving on the board for McLean Youth Soccer and then served for over 20 years on the board of the National Capitol Soccer League. She spent over 35 years volunteering in youth soccer. She was known by all as a kind, generous, and fun spirit who had a smile for everyone she met.
