IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
Carmen María De Carvalho passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021, in Arlington, Virginia. Carmen María was born in San José, Costa Rica, on June 14, 1928, to Ricardo Mora and María Cristina Jiménez. She grew up and studied in San José and worked at the Northern Railroad Company. After the passing of her mother, she left her native Costa Rica and moved to New York City where she met her late husband, José Ribamar De Carvalho, with whom she was happily married until his death in December 2000.
Doña Carmen, as many of us called her, was the personification of class and elegance. She was a Diplomat and Consular Officer at the Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington for over 35 years, faithfully serving her country and thousands of Costa Ricans living and working in the United States.
A Catholic Mass to celebrate Carmen María’s life will be held at St. Agnes Church, 1910 N. Randolph Street, Arlington, Virginia, on Saturday April 24 at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington.
Carmen María will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her relatives, close friends, and those with whom she worked and served throughout the years. She enriched the lives of all who knew and loved her. Doña Carmen, you will never be forgotten and the fond memories of you and your love will live with all of us forever. Your loving family and friends.
