Francis Oswald Sriwardene

Buppy, as he was affectionately known, was a powerful force in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love of God and family. He was very devoted to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.

Francis and Charmaine were married on August 12,1969, in the beautiful Saint Mary’s Church in Colombo. They left their home country when Fabian was only three and lived for many years in England. In 1980, they came to the United States to join many of Francis’ family. He worked for AT&T as a pricing and contract manager and later for Lucent Technologies. He was esteemed by his colleagues and received multiple awards and accolades. He retired in 1998 and spent many happy years thereafter with his family and the beloved local Sri Lankan community.

Francis is survived by his loving wife, Charmaine; devoted son and daughter-in-law, Fabian and Kathryn; adoring grandchildren, Jude, Jack, Gabriel, Peter and Hope. He is pre-deceased by his parents Eddie and Lena Siriwardene and brother, Anton. He is survived by his sisters Rita, Theresa, and Maryanne; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

The family will receive friends at Murphy’s Funeral Home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia, on November 7th from 4pm until 8pm. A Catholic funeral will take place at Murphy’s Chapel the following day, November 8th at 11am.

A Catholic burial will take place on November 15th at 11 am at Saint Joseph’s Novitiate, Daughters of Mary Convent, 1275 Hearts Content Road, Round Top, New York 12473.
