I am very sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. He was important to me in my life. May God bless Connie and the rest of his family. He was one of the good ones!

Jim came to my high school in D.C.when he was a senior which can,t have been easy.  He made friends and fit right in.  We started dating during summers and breaks when we were both home from college.  I am saddened to hear of his death.  He and I liked to ride through Arlington Cemetery and remember the many buried there.  It is fitting that he would rest there.  He gave a great deal to our country!

I so sorry to read this .  I first met Jim when ne came to my high school as a Senior when his father was stationed in D.C.  We became friends and dated when both of us were home from college.  He went to school in Massachusetts and I was in North Carolina so we didn't see each other a lot.  Allen and I enjoyed visiting the Hastings in Hawaii and enjoyed seeing them when they visited their daughter in Atlanta.  My sincere sympsthry to all Jim's family.

We were heartbroken to learn  on August 23 that Jim had died.
We first met Jim and Connie  in  1972 when Jim became Chief of Medicine at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone  and since  Marty  had  been there  for a year as the staff gastroenterologist, the previous chief, Dr. Carlos De Castro  assigned  Marty the privilege of  greeting and assisting the Hastings family when they arrived.  We were amazed when they appeared in a Ford Bronco, having DRIVEN  all the way from D.C. to Panama.  Working under Jim's leadership was one of the best experiences of Marty's career in medicine.   Over the years we saw Jim and Connie in San Francisco, once in Honolulu and then at a Gorgas Hospital reunion in Panama. We treasured their friendship and wished that circumstances were such that we could get together more.

We just learned with great sorrow of the passing of Dr Jimmy  Hasting and we will always remember the kindness of Jimmy and Connie receiving our son at their place and also being there for Henri and I (Monique) when we were going through a very difficult time. What a wonderful family so generous toward those in need. We shared a nice souvenir running the Honolulu marathon as a group.
