Joanne Butler Chauncey

Beloved sister and aunt, Joanne Butler Chauncey, died January 4, 2021 at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA. Joanne Chauncey was born August 5, 1947, in Arlington, VA, to Evelyn Butler Chauncey and Claude Chauncey. JoAnne’s mother passed away when she was 15 years old; with a servant’s heart, she cared for her father until he passed away in 1989. She retired in 2005 after thirty years in the Department of Defense. Joanne and her best friend, Betty Florence, loved to travel and visited many historical sites in and around the Washington DC area. Her favorite vacation spot was in Ocean City, MD because she loved the sights and sounds of the ocean, though you could never get her on a boat. She enjoyed photography, reading mysteries, listening to old western radio shows, and was always up for a game of poker or bingo. “Aunt Jo” was laid to her final rest, next her mother, at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Joanne is survived by her brother, William Claude Chauncey, Sr., nephews William C. Chauncey, Jr., Michael B. Chauncey, Stephen E. Chauncey, Timothy A. Chauncey and niece Danielle L. Chauncey.
