Jack was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 21, 1938 to Madaline (John) Bauer and Adam Bauer. He moved to Arlington, Virginia at a young age with his mother, sister, and grandfather and graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1957.
After serving in the Coast Guard, he returned to his childhood home to care for his mother and married Yvonne Varva in 1960.
Jack founded Bauer Studios, which was an Arlington photography staple serving schools across Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties. He provided his services to countless weddings and other events throughout his long career.
Always ready to pick up a hammer and help others with their next project, “Happy Jack” loved engaging with people. He was always the loudest cheerleader at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and never missed as opportunity to be Santa Claus at the EDW Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Meyers, six children Eric Bauer, Karen (Glenn) Graves, Alison Bauer (Kurt Reitz), Steve Bauer, Phil Bauer, Heidi (Jeff) Gurley; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and he will be missed.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 27 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington. A picnic reception will be held at the EDW Knights of Columbus afterward.
A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Fredericksburg Food Bank or Alzheimer’s Association.
