Joseph John Yarrish

He leaves behind his daughters Jennifer Yarrish and Benita Koch; his three grandchildren, Aleksander Morris and Alison and Ben Koch; and his siblings, Jocelyn Devergilius, Juanita Rennie, James Yarrish, and Janice Giebus. Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Virginia Yarrish, and his parents Jean and Joseph Yarrish Sr.

Born December 29, 1944, Joseph grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Plains Memorial High School, and Kings College.

Joseph was a devoted presence in the lives of those he loved, always supportive and generous. He had a way of building, fixing, or figuring out just about anything. He found joy in tending to an expansive garden filled with countless fruits and vegetables, preparing delicious meals, and reading about events in history. He shared his love of these things with his family, creating lasting traditions and memories.

A veteran who served his country with honor, he brought a deep sense of duty and integrity to his professional life. As Regional Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, he played a key role in uncovering fraud and criminal activity. His work was respected at the highest levels and cited in national publications, including The New York Times.

Above all, he will be remembered most for the way he showed up for his family. Joseph was a steady and unwavering source of support. His kindness, wit, and quiet strength will be deeply missed.

A viewing will be offered on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 1:30pm – 5pm at Murphy’s Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203. On Monday, April 20th, a service will be held at 10am at St. James Catholic Church located at 905 Park Ave, Falls Church, VA 22046.
