IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
June Nolan Oliver, 94, widow of John C. Oliver, died Monday 7 October 2019, in Arlington, Virginia.
June was born 3 February 1925 in Niagara Falls, New York, daughter to the late Edward Joseph and Edna Jane (Chevrier) Nolan. She attended Ohio University, and, living in Philadelphia in the 40’s, worked for IBM. There, she was introduced to her future husband John Oliver, a fraternity brother of her own brother Robert Nolan. They married in 1949 and moved to northern Virginia where they settled permanently to raise their family.
June held a special place in the hearts of many she knew. She carried a positive, up-beat energy and her presence lifted those around her. She is remembered as a bright and vibrant woman willing to take on new challenges with delight. Like her siblings, June was interested in art, especially painting, but truly excelled at piano, tennis, and bridge. June was loved and admired by her many nieces, nephews, and friends and was an enduring source of support and joy for her extended family.
In lieu of flowers, June would prefer a more lasting contribution to a charity of your choice or to the Goodwin House Foundation - Staff Support Program (https://www.goodwinhouse.org/foundation/), a program to assist staff at Goodwin House who were invaluable to June’s wellbeing in her final years.
A Memorial celebration of her life will be held on Friday, 18 October 2019 at 10:00 am at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203. Family will receive friends at that time.
