Lois G. Morgan, a 47-year resident of Arlington, Virginia, currently of Washington, D.C. died on February 26 of complications from surgery after a fall. She was born and raised in Oklahoma, graduating from East Central University, Ada, Oklahoma in 1943 with a B. A. in music. She taught high school music and band before marrying Ensign Walter N. Morgan in 1945. They were married for nearly 68 years. She was a vital part of her husband's long naval career. She raised two children while living often overseas in Moscow U.S.S.R. in the mid 1950s, Tokyo Japan in the early 1960s and San Juan
Puerto Rico in the mid-sixties. She worked as a secretary for the Japanese Language School in Boulder, Colorado during WWII, Gulf Oil during the Korean War and taught school in the Arlington and Fairfax County, Virginia School systems for 13 years. In retirement she was a member of the Rock Springs Garden Club and the National Capitol Daylily Club. She was also a judge for the American Hemerocallis Society. While in Japan, she taught English plus western etiquette and customs to the wives of Japanese military officers, with whom she remained in contact. She was a lifelong student, garnering many graduate credits in addition to a multitude of skills and interests. She was a member of the Cherrydale Methodist Church,
Arlington, Va. for many years.
She leaves her husband Walter N. Morgan, her children Karen Miller of New York, and Dr. Steven Morgan of California, her grandchildren, Elaine Jerome and Kristin Miller also of California and her sisters, Glynna Pinkard and Jeane Whitaker of Texas. She was predeceased by her brother C.D. Gaines, Jr. also of Texas. She will be fondly remembered by her son-in-law, Howard Miller of New York, her daughter-in-law Skyli McAfee of California, and her grandson-in-law, David Jerome of California.
She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
