Mary Grace Joan Hardiman, 89, of Bristow, VA, passed away on Oct. 6, 2020. Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Edward J. Hardiman, Esq. of Philadelphia, PA. Daughter of the late Leonard Augustus Shaw and Victoria (Kamowki) Shaw, and stepdaughter of the late Michael Haydock. Devoted mother of three. Lifelong Catholic, prolific volunteer, and friend to all. Most recently, a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Bristow, VA). Distinguished graduate of Nanticoke High School, and Temple and Drexel Universities. Born in Chester during the Great Depression, and raised in Nanticoke and Philadelphia, Grace went on to become an accomplished woman of many talents, including the visual arts and STEM sciences, cooking, sewing, knitting, and gardening. She had great passion for and studied music and art. Over the years, she enjoyed multiple careers as a registered nurse, homemaker, and university lecturer, and attained degrees and credentials in chemical engineering and industrial hygiene. Later, she managed her husband's law practice in Pocono Pines. She and her husband retired and relocated to Florida and, later, Virginia. Grace is survived by her three grown children, The Hon. Therese A. Hardiman, (David Malecki), Mountaintop, PA, Edward M. Hardiman, Woodbridge, VA and Mary G. Hardiman, (Michael Conyngham), Arlington, VA; two grandchildren, Christine Malecki White (Adrian), and Grace Conyngham.; two great-grandchildren, Camrinn J. and Adrian C.; a sister, Michelle Wayne, and sister-in-law, Florence Brocato Lighter; and, several cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N. Randolph St. Arlington, VA 22207, with Rev. Peter McShurley officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Society for Women Engineers Scholarship Program; WomenHeart: National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease; and, Catholic Charities. The family appreciates the love and support that Grace received from the All Saints, Holy Trinity, and St. Agnes parish communities in Northern Virginia, and the care that Grace received at Sunrise of Arlington and Virginia Hospital Center.
