Dear Mary Alice and Family,

We are all crushed.  Terribly crushed by Mike's passing. Although we have only been your next-door neighbors for two years - from day one - Mike always made us feel like we had known him our whole lives. His genuine & friendly nature was unbeatable. And his patience with our young children was extraordinary. Every time Mike appeared on the cul-de-sac, our children were quick to "pounce" to ask a "few" questions, which often resulted in lengthy and lively conversations that delighted the kids.  And we were all spoiled to have our next-door neighbor as our greeter & usher at every 9am Mass on Sundays. From giving the kids his extra tickets at the St. Ann's festival last year, so they could go on an extra ride - to handing out his amazing 'full-sized' candy bars on Halloween - Mike's generosity left an incredible impression on our children - and us. We can only strive to be a fraction of the remarkable neighbor and friend that Mike was to us. -- Annie & Mike DePasquale

I loved Mike and being your neighbor was life changing.  He, along with Mary Alice, have been the gold standard for me and Garrett as we try to raise our boys to be like the amazing men Mike and Matt are today.  My fondest memories of Mike are his laughing as I chased the boys, his patience with our bulldog as she accosted him as he tried to mow the yard, his welcoming nature and his infectious laugh.  He once helped me when I was eight months pregnant with my oldest and realized I was locked out of the house.  He attempted to keep me calm and was encouraging of my questionable decision to break a window to get into the house because I was hot!  I will carry his laughter and his “oh Susan” in my heart.   I thank him for reminding me of my commitment to my faith and will cherish the times I got to teach Faith Formation with him.  My heart goes out to all of you and we are here for anything that is needed and of course, a toast or two to Mike.  All of my love. Susan

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's passing.  It seems like the end of an era.  Mike worked hard, played hard and was universally admired.  The WAO/WDO was a great place to work because he treated us all like family.  I have so many memories of outings to baseball games, skiing in Snowshoe, WV, St. Patty's Day celebrations at the 4 Ps, football pools, March Madness, weight loss contests and, of course, our epic holiday parties!  Mike was at the center of them all.
I hope your memories will sustain you in the difficult days ahead.

Dear Mary Alice,  I was very sad to hear about Mickey's passing. I remember when Emily said we were going to her best friend and her husband's house for dinner. I was going to be on my best behavior. Mickey opened the door and said Tuffy come on in. I said thanks Mickey. You and Mickey were always nice to me. I'll raise a Jameson to him. God bless you and the boys.

Sandy and I were devastated to hear of Mike's passing.  Our hearts are with you and the boys. One fond memory is of an afternoon in October 1978, not long after I came to DC from the big apple.  Some of us decided to leave work early and Mike invited us to your place in Georgetown.  You may have guessed that it was the Yanks/ Sox playoff for the pennant. I was forever after forbidden to mention the name Bucky Dent in Mike's presence! There's a rumor that St. Peter once played second base for the Pawtucket Sox. I'm sure he had the pearly gates painted green awaiting Mike.

I am very sorry about your loss.  I knew Mickey in the 1970's and early 1980's.  He was a very good and very loyal man - one could easily sense that.  Mickey gave me one short piece of advice and I never forgot it.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Mike was a great, fun-loving guy; a straight shooter; and someone I always looked forward to spending time with.  He was also one of John Kotch's core cadre of agency trainers, largely because of his extraordinary ability to relate to everyone he met.  I clearly remember an occasion when I was in Washington on a detail and you invited me to your home for supper.  What a gracious gesture!  May you be consoled by your precious memories and the warm thoughts and prayers of the many people whose paths, thankfully, were fortunate enough to have crossed the path you have made together.

Betty and I are so saddened  by your loss. Mike was a great friend, always with a smile and  kind words.  My first memory of Mike is from a St Ann's Harvest festival back in the early 1990's; he and I were tasked with moving  a huge pumpkin, possibly nearing 100 lbs., and struggling to get our arms around this monster. Somewhere in the world are pictures of us struggling, laughing at our inability to hoist the pumpkin and becoming friends in the process.
We will think of Mike every Sunday when not seeing him in the pew behind or usual seats.

Words cannot do Mike Cahir justice, and these will certainly fall short.  Mike was my neighbor and friend for seventeen years.  Susan and I moved in next to Mike and Mary Alice shortly before our own wedding.  By his example, Mike showed me what it was to be a husband, a father, a neighbor, and a friend.  I could not have asked for a better guide.  The world -- my world, our world -- is lesser today for the want of him.  Mary Alice, Little Mike, and Matt, you are in our thoughts, and hopefully when you are ready, we will be able to sit together and remember the pillar of a man who was your husband and father. Mickey was one of God's gentlemen but he was one of the worst Liar's Poker players of all time. Many Sunday afternoons spent at Third Edition with Mickey and others playing the game. Fun beyond belief and Mickey was always at the center of it all.
