Pamela Hudgens was called to the Lord and passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023 at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. Pam was born to the late Freddie L. Hudgens and his late wife, Ethel M. Hudgens on July 16, 1964 in Laurens County, South Carolina. She was the seventh of eight children. Pam moved to Washington, DC in 1971 where she attended Naval Thomas Elementary School and then other public schools and finally Strayer College. Pam would spend the rest of her life in the DC region, finally settling in Alexandria, VA. During her long and successful career, Pam held a variety of clerical and administrative positions, such as office manager, security manager and executive assistant. She was a civil servant (and then later) a contractor employee in various US government agencies. These included Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Transportation (DOT), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and Air Staff at the Pentagon, among others.
Aside from attention to detail and a commitment to executing her job responsibilities with pride and professionalism, Pam had several other passions in life. Although she always lived in or near Washington DC, she absolutely loved the Dallas Cowboys; one could say she was their Number 1 fan! She had Cowboys jerseys, pillows, footballs, flags, pictures, posters and even a helmet signed by various team members. She had several sets of the fuzziest, ugliest bedroom slippers that could be imagined. Pam enjoyed playing bid whist, go-go and funk music, dressing up, dancing and solving large, complex crossword puzzles.
Pam was a connoisseur of seafood, especially shrimp and crabs. When they were in season, Pam sought the very biggest and best quality Blue Crabs to steam and pick apart for every tender morsel. When no Blue Crabs meeting her high standards could be found in (or near) DC, she would insist her significant other, Nick drive her to Southern Maryland to pick them out -- several dozen at a time! She also enjoyed travel with Nick to the Appalachian Mountains, New York City and, most of all, Atlantic City where she loved the beach and the fine seafood restaurants. Pam and Nick would often celebrate various holidays together; dressing up in red and white to go to their favorite restaurants on Valentines Day, wearing lots of green and eating Irish foods on St. Patrick’s Day, and on Halloween they would join thousands of other revelers on M Street in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC in creative costumes (such as Queen Cleopatra and Marc Anthony).
Pam’s strong work ethic as well as her bright and joyous spirit and zest for life was recognized by all who knew her and she is terribly missed.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents (as mentioned above) two sisters, JoAnn Hudgens and Kathyleen Hudgens and her son Mark A. Hudgens. Pam leaves to mourn: her sisters, Sarah H. Fuller and Katherine Hudgens: her brothers, Remus L. Hudgens-Bey, Fred A. Hudgens, and Michael E. Hudgens; her grandsons, Mark A. Hudgens, Jr., and Mason W. Hudgens; as well as six aunts, one uncle, one niece, two great-nieces, two nephews, two great nephews and many, many cousins and friends. She also leaves to mourn her significant other of many years, Nick Demidovich.
Please join Pam’s family and friends to remember her at her memorial service. It will occur at Murphy Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA on Sunday, January 28th. Visitation will take place from 9-11 AM and 12-2 PM followed by a service beginning at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society in Pam’s name.
