1941-2026
Pauline Sullivan passed away on February 7, 2026, at the age of 84, as sharp as a tack, telling everyone that her breakfast was too big and it was such a waste with starving kids outside. Anyone who knew her would have expected nothing less.
She was born and raised in Killarney, Ireland, to Paddy and Agnes Doyle. Having lost her father at a young age, Pauline and her sister Mary were largely responsible for caring for the two younger, wild brothers (Pat and Donie) and watching their third sister, Agnes, while still working various jobs and attending the Killarney Presentation Catholic school. It was in Kerry that she met her future husband, Jim, and subsequently moved to New York City in 1968 before finally settling in charming Ridgewood, NJ, for decades.
Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her brother, Pat Doyle; her two children, Deidre and Jimmy; and her daughter-in-law, Jessica (and her favorite grand-dog, Chloe).
She was never fearful of stating her mind, was always the first to pick up the bill, and was first to sacrifice for her family, and she consistently enriched the lives of all those around her.
Even though she was an extremely dedicated swimming parent, actively volunteering for the Ridgewood YMCA Swim Team and earning the prestigious Tony Prettitore award, she never pressured; rather, she guided her children to follow their passions in swimming, in school, and in life.
May we all try to carry forth her spirit, her strength, her generosity, and her love.
Her heart was always in Killarney, and the family plans to return her home. The family is asking in lieu of flowers to please send a donation to the Community Food Bank of NJ. https://cfbnj.org/
