As the 5th of 6 siblings, he is survived by his sisters Nancy and Linda, and his brother Mark. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Biagio Furnari, as well as siblings Susan and David. Peter has ten nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews (with another on the way).
Peter spent most of his life in the Northern Virginia area, except for a foray to Norfolk, VA for college and a lot of good times. To know Peter was to love him. He greeted everyone with a smile and a sarcastic comment. Those who truly knew him understood the depth of his kindness and fierce loyalty. He had a remarkable gift for making connections and never met a stranger. If you weren't friends with Peter, you probably just hadn't met him yet.
Friends and colleagues throughout the years talked of his commitment to his work, his empathy for others, his listening ear, and his ability to make anyone laugh. In the summer, you could often find Peter at the Waterfront joined by close friends, fall saw him on the road for ODU football games, and there was always an annual trip to NY for Thanksgiving. In between there was time for golf and, of course, a good cocktail.
Peter had the biggest heart. He will be loved, missed, and his memory cherished. Please join us to celebrate his life on Thursday, February 15 at 1:00 pm at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington (4510 Wilson Blvd). There will be a streaming option so that friends from near and far can join in honoring him. All are welcome to join us afterwards at Crystal City Sports Bar (529 23rd Street South, Arlington, VA - third floor) from 3:30 - 7:30 pm to share your favorite stories of Peter.
