Rita was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. First and foremost, she treasured her family and cherished every moment she shared with them. For decades, Rita worked side-by-side with her husband and best friend, Ed. Together, they ran a successful sales territory and managed their real estate properties, while also spending precious time with their daughters. Rita was a devoted mother, who showered her daughters with unconditional love and unwavering support. She masterfully balanced spoiling her children – particularly during her favorite holiday, Christmas – with teaching them to be kind, thankful, and faithful individuals.
Rita had tireless energy, never sitting down when her children were young. She was selfless with her time and gifts, always lending a hand to those in need. Rita was a devout Catholic, who cherished her relationship with God and tried to live her life as an example of His love.
Among other things, Rita loved traveling with her family, exploring new cultures and places, and creating lasting memories. After her children moved away for college and law school, Rita toured the globe with her husband and friends. They spent countless hours sharing laughs and enjoying good times.
More recently, Rita’s grandchildren became the blessed recipients of her focus, generosity, and devotion. Rita’s deep love for her grandchildren could be seen on her face with her shining smile and felt in every hug. Rita adored every minute with her grandchildren – from playing (winning) cards or board games to watching them play or even listening to them practice instruments.
Rita was ceaselessly optimistic, always finding the best in every person and every situation. Even when faced with health issues over the last several years, Rita never complained and never lost her love of life. She was an example of strength and bravery to all who knew her.
Rita is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Edward Joseph Norrett; her daughters, Lisa Norrett Himes and Laura Norrett Perkins (Matt); and her grandchildren, Isabelle (Izzy) Perkins, Jeb Perkins, Sarah Himes, and Jennifer (Jenny) Himes. Also surviving Rita are her brother Vincent Castronuovo (Joan), her sister Mary Higman (George), and her many nieces and nephews.
A Catholic mass will be held in loving memory of Rita at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia at 10:30 am on August 1, 2025. Following the mass, a reception will be held to celebrate Rita’s life at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia from 12 pm – 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Rita by spending time, and sharing laughs, with someone you love.
