

Rodolfo Tobias was Rody to his friends and family. He was born in Manila, Philippines as the 2nd child of Alberto Tobias and Elena Catap, on the 11th of May, 1948. He has 4 brothers and 4 sisters, namely Orlando, Leonora, Aurora, Nenita, Dante, Oscar, Teresita and Edgardo.
He studied in public schools in Manila during his elementary and high school days. He studied and finished college in the University of the East taking up Business Administration majoring in Accounting.
After graduating from college, he worked for a major bank in the Philippines, the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp, where he spent most of his working days before embarking on bringing his young family to live in the US. By then, he had 2 young children, Rhodora and Conrad.
In August 1990, he went back to the US to live permanently. He worked some odd jobs in the country, before settling to work for Sheraton Hotel where he stayed loyally for more than 20 years.
He liked the Beatles so much that once, he had the same style of eyeglasses that John Lennon had worn, the one with small circular lenses.
He loved to read newspapers and magazines, sometimes all available papers in one day, a habit he got from his father. He was also fond of indulging in Filipino comics, Sudoku, cross word puzzles.
He loves his food – adobo, menudo and anything else that he can eat using spoon and fork, (ayaw magkamay), loves potato a lot. He can only cook fried eggs and boil rice.
He was always ready to help, spiritually and materially as his family and relatives wouldn’t ask him twice for it. He was always there for everyone of them. He gained a lot of good friends from his student years, as well as from his work here and back in the Philippines. The likes of the Ramos’, Caballos’, Avilas,Tolentinos , Dolfo Gamez, Caloy Cadiente, and people from the Sheraton Hotel will always be in the minds of his family, as the people who have supported and stayed with him till the last remaining moments of his life.
