

Born in Hazleton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Jean (Choppe) Majez. She was a 1974 graduate of Marian High School. She graduated from the University of Scranton in 1978 with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. She received a Masters in Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1986. Valerie worked as a government consultant most notably at NASA, State Department, and the Food and Drug Administration. After retiring, she joined the Virginia Hospital Center Auxiliary volunteering on the Auxiliary Board and in the hospital’s gift shop. She loved watching Naval Academy football and the Yankees. She was an avid traveler and passionate about cooking.
Surviving are her daughter, Erin Evans of Arlington; her two sisters, Carol Ginster and her husband John of Utica, NY and Jackie Lopata and her husband Mark of Nesquehoning, PA; three nephews, Kory Lopata and his wife Krista of Palmerton, PA, Jake Lopata and his fiancé Rebecca Gottfried of New Port Ritchey, FL, and Chris Evans of Annandale, VA and her niece Nicole Evans of Tamaqua, PA; her great-niece and great-nephews; and several cousins.
Calling hours are on Monday evening August 18, 2025 from 5pm-8pm at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday August 19, 2025 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 5300 10th Street North, Arlington, VA.
