April 24, 1946 - May 20, 2018
Resident of Arlington, VA
Vince was born in Los Angeles, CA to parents Frank and Katherine Janowicz. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School where he played football, baseball, and basketball and went on to play football on a full scholarship at University of Washington. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer, worked his way up to 1st Lieutenant, and fought for our country in the Vietnam War. Once returning home he continued his career in the Marine Corps while also raising a family in Capistrano Beach, CA. He later moved to Laguna Beach and became a Personal Trainer, giving him the opportunity to spend much of his day in the gym, which is where he felt most comfortable. While living in Southern California he also loved spending time on the beach surfing and playing beach volleyball, along with coaching football and soccer. Sports and health were always a huge part of his life.
After leaving Southern California, Vince spent time with his wife, Suzanne Iacono, living in Arizona, Boston and then the last 15 years in Arlington, VA. Vince continued his personal training and was revered by his clients. Vince and Suzi spent much of their free time golfing, biking and traveling, while also enjoying good food, good wine and good company.
Vince is survived by his wife of 29 years, Suzi, and children Sarah Sozzi (Chris), Emily Ferrari (Dominic) and stepson Alec Iacono (Ashley). Along with his grandchildren Luke and Maya Sozzi, Isabella and Siena Ferrari, and Alden and Sofia Iacono, who all affectionately refer to him as “Big V”. He is also survived by his first wife Laurie Cowan, nieces Ellen Hunstein, Alene Frankel and their families, and his brother Frank Janowicz.
Vince’s larger than life presence, determination and dedication to help himself and others to consistently improve, along with his philosophy on life and appreciation for the simple things, will be passed on to his family, friends and all who were lucky enough to know and cross paths with him.
Memorial celebrations are planned for Vince at Doheny Beach in Dana Point, CA on August 3rd, 2018, and at Arlington National Cemetery this Fall. Additional details will be available on the Murphy Funeral Home link at www.legacy.com, where you can also leave comments, share stories and upload photos.
