Wilburt E. Haggerty

Mr. Haggerty was born in Connecticut and grew up in Louisiana. He received bachelor and master degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He came to the Washington Area during the Korean War as a Lieutenant at the Army’s Arlington Hall Station. He met and married his wife during this period and settled in the Northern Virginia area. He was a member of the American Chemical Society. The American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the honorary research society Sigma Xi. He was active in the Ballston Group of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Young At Heart senior group at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington.

Wilburt was preceded in death by his daughter Helen, and son Ned. Wilburt is survived by his wife, Eileen, son, Thomas of Nokesville, two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA 22203, from 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 6th. Funeral service the following day Wednesday, January 7th at 11:00 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church 1910 N. Randolph St. Arlington, VA 22207. Interment immediately following at Rock Creek Cemetery 201 Allison St. NW Washington, D.C. 20011.
