Roy C Nelson and my dad, Roy Irvin Nelson, were cousins.  I enjoyed visiting with Roy C at reunions and when he would call me to chat, about once a month the last couple of years.  His stories about the Navy were interesting and he liked to compare notes when I visited a country he had seen in his Navy travels.  The Bell-Sanderson-Nelson reunion in August won't be the same without Jim and Roy....but we will carry on in their memories. :-)

Sailor Rest Your Oar.   A dedicated member of the USS Springfield Base of the United States Submarine Veterans, Roy regularly attended meetings, functions and our parties.  He was a pleasure to engage in conversation and was always willing to share his sea stories.  May you rest easy my friend as we now have the watch.  

My condolences to Roy’s family and friends, may you all find peace during this time of grief and find comfort knowing that Petty Officer 1st  Class Roy Nelson was a good man and served his country well.

Roy used to come and stay at our home in Hartsburg in the summer. One thing I remember him doing was helping mow our large yard and then he played baseball with us!  Was always more fun when he played too!
