Betty Wright Harrison

Betty "Betsy" Wright Harrison, 80, of Ashland, passed peacefully on April 17, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brigadier General David Gordon Harrison, brother, John William Wright Jr. Betsy was the daughter of the late John William Wright and Ruth Snellings Wright of Washington D.C. She was a member of First Baptist Church Ashland and an active member of the Ashland Junior Women's Club. Betsy worked for the state of Virginia as the Volunteer Coordinator at Hanover Learning Center, following that she worked for the Correction Corporation of America. She enjoyed playing and teaching bridge. She enjoyed college athletics and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. She loved entertaining and was a wonderful cook. Betsy is survived by her children, Page Harrison Hobart (Glen), Margo Harrison Jones (Billy), David Gordon Harrison, Jr. (Kathy), and William Wright Harrison; grandchildren, Mindy Hobart Colden (Trip), Sydney Hobart, Haley Jones, Ross Jones, Gordon Harrison, Daniel Harrison, and Chloe Powers; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Colden. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 10 am-11 am at First Baptist Church Ashland, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, VA, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. A graveside service will follow in Hollywood Cemetery at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Ashland, Hospice of Virginia, or The Alzheimer's Association.
