Obituary of Emily Troxell Pepper
Emily died November 19, 2021, at home. Emily was born and raised in Ashland, Va. and graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1958. She also attended Randolph-Macon College and graduated from Mary Baldwin College in 1962. Emily was predeceased by her husband, Newit Pepper; her parents, Bill and Christine Troxell; and stepdaughter, Sherry Roby. She is survived by her children, Jack Pepper (Lia); Ann Shoemaker (John); granddaughter, Christine Adams; son-in-law, Jim Roby; sisters, Shearer Luck (Jack), Elizabeth Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews. Emily worked for the CIA as an Intelligence Analyst when she met Newit. They moved to Newport News, where she worked as a secretary for Newport News Public Schools. She later returned to her hometown of Ashland to be closer to her friends and family. She enjoyed playing bridge, eating out, going to church and helping others. Emily is loved by many for her compassion, kindness and faith in God. She maintained strength and dignity as she battled kidney failure for over four years. Her service will be held Saturday, November 27 at 11 a.m. at Ashland Presbyterian Church, 401 Virginia Street, Ashland, Va. 23005. Masks are required. Inurnment will be later at Peninsula Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ashland Presbyterian Church, 401 Virginia St., Ashland Va. 23005.
