Alvis, Gladys Edwards, 87, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family in her Montpelier home on October 27, 2016. She was preceded in death by Emmett Mason Alvis, her loving husband of fifty years; and son-in-law, Jack Lipscomb. A devoted mother, she is survived by three daughters: Eunice Lipscomb of St. Simons Island, GA; Linda Stephens (Bob) of Glen Allen, VA; and, Betty Brannan (Paige) of Bumpass, VA. She is a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Montpelier, VA. The manner in which she lived out her faith can perhaps best be described in two words - humble servant. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4-7pm at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 17420 Shiloh Church Road, Montpelier, VA 23192. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
